Centuries old artistry
An ancient craft unlike anything in the world
Bidri art is an ancient form of metalwork from the Indian city of Bidar that has remained virtually unchanged for over 600 years. The craft combines zinc and copper with finely inlaid silver or gold to create striking pieces distinguished by their deep black background and gleaming designs. This signature black color comes from a unique soil found only inside a centuries-old fort in Bidar, whose chemical properties give the metal its distinctive finish. A feature that makes Bidriware unlike any other metal art in the world.
Craftmanship
Turning metal into something unique
Each Bidri piece is the result of an intricate eight-step process involving casting, engraving, inlaying, and polishing. The work demands immense patience, precision, and artistry, as every object is handcrafted using techniques passed down through generations of artisans. The fine detailing and contrast between blackened metal and silver inlay make every item a piece of living heritage.
Preserving history for future generations
Every piece tells a story shaped by mastery and time. As one of the rarest living crafts in the world, Bidri art is created by only a small group of artisans who continue to protect a tradition that has survived for centuries. By choosing one of these pieces, you help keep this heritage alive and ensure the next generation can experience its culture, beauty and meaning.
